Ron van den Boogaard

After a very varied career, which included a.o. nursing, airplane toilet cleaning, skydiving instructor and sign painting, Ron turned to applied arts in 1979, beginning a high-pressure advertising career that spanned two decades as illustrator and art-director, in which he did not shy away away from animation, packaging, book and record sleeves, web-design.

In this period various sidesteps into automous art were made. Several years ago he ventured into this full-time. Which, mostly to his own surprise, led fairly quickly to critical acclaim, invitations to various shows and sales.

"...What strikes is that the work presents a peculiar combination of signs we find in the street or in cornfields or in folkloristic-art and abstract paintings (once in a while Rothko). This creates, an discerning tension.

""Do the archetypical symbols mix with the expressions of a modern abstract life?" to put it more philosophically.
I find the images (I speculate this is the later work) where this happens most casually, where this is most part of the paintwork itself, the strongest work."

" I'm constantly searching for the duality of silence and dynamics. Rest and unrest. Stillness and movement. The duality of the presence and absence of colour is the primary basis I work from. In this process symbols do appear. Which seem to stem from internet and brand icons, ethnographic expressions, arabic and eastern typography, graffitti and such. In this deconstruction of language and expression, a new set of dialectics starts to exist.
This both comes from and gives me as well, a heightened sense of connection with the life and the omniverse that surrounds me, which leads me to be both the observer as well as the commentator. "
